While many NFL greats leave an indelible stamp on the field, not as many make their marks as exemplary human beings. Those closest to Reggie clearly saw that distinction. I Remember Reggie White presents the recollections and favorite stories of this dynamic minister and pro football's Minister of Defense as captured in more than two dozen interviews with teammates, friends, coaches, acquaintances, and members of the media. The narrative spans his career from his days at Chattanooga (Tenn.) Howard High School, the University of Tennessee, and the defunct USFL Memphis Showboats through his NFL days with the Philadelphia Eagles and the Green Bay Packers.
Reggie White left behind a massive legacy. A thirteen-time Pro Bowler and consensus two-time Defensive Player of the Year, he retired as the NFL's all-time sack leader. Selected to the NFL's 75th Anniversary All-Time Team in 1994, he still holds the Super Bowl single-game sack record.
While football became his burning ambition at a young age, an equally passionate devotion to God and a genuine dedication to ministering resulted in Reggie's ordination as a Baptist minister at age 17. Often controversial for his observations on race and religion, he spent much of his time after retirement from pro football following the 2000 season studying Hebrew and translating the original Old Testament text.
